Immediate effect of quick massage on muscle tension and pressure pain threshold

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Massage is described as an effective complementary therapy for relieving muscle tension and pain. The aim of this study was to verify the benefits quick massage on pressure pain tolerance threshold (PPT). METHODS: A randomized clinical in which 40 professors participated were randomly divided into control (CG) experimental (EG) groups. They assessed level shoulder neck regions using visual analogue scale (VAS). PPT through algometry at upper trapezius sternocleidomastoid muscles following anatomical areas: base occipital, scapular spine, thoracic (T6-T7) lumbar (L4-L5) regions. EG received a single session 20 minutes shoulders, spine. RESULTS: Regarding pain, significant difference observed only presented greater both before after intervention when compared CG. tension, intervention, there reduction perception CG group. CONCLUSION: Quick efficient decrease by VAS, however, did not increase intervention.
